Yvonne Magee has been a lifelong artist and art lover. With a background in art education and art therapy she returned to painting in 2014 when she retired. Her work is now in public and private collections worldwide. She has been in solo and group exhibitions, has had work in galleries in the US, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and was shortlisted in 2023 for the Royal Ulster Academy exhibition.
Influenced by the great abstractionists (particularly Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Mitchell, Richard Diebenkorn and Per Kirkeby), her paintings are loose and free. As an expat American, she is deeply inspired by living in the ancient, beautiful east coast Northern Irish town of Cushendall. The countryside, seaside and garden are her happy places. The sights, sounds and energy of her childhood in the Arizona desert also inform her work.
Magee’s focus is on filling her paintings with an experience of the beauty and vitality of the natural world, including a joyful energy that can often be felt by the viewer. Owners of her paintings have commented on the energised sense of peace and joy they feel as they live with her work. Her wish is to share this sense of joy with you!
Paintings and other works by Magee are in private and public collections in the UK, US, Australia, Asia and continental Europe.
